Sample Complaint Letter to Landlord About Parking

Sample Complaint Letter to Landlord About Parking June 25, 2014

Rental life unfortunately can come with a few unnecessary headaches. Sometimes, the parking situation at your apartment complex can be frustrating and downright annoying. If this is happening to you, it is time to contact your landlord. If he/she ignores your phone call, write a complaint letter. A complaint letter demonstrates that you are very serious about this matter.

Try to type the letter. (If you do not have access to a printer, vist your local library.) Use business letter format. If you have forgotten, read, “How to Write a Business Letter.” If you can afford it, mail the letter using signature confirmation. Dear Mr. Kingsbury,

I am the tenant for Apt #8724 in the Highland Oaks Apartment Complex. I signed my six month lease in August, about two months ago. I was planning on staying here at least 18 months. Overall, I am pleased with the size and location of my apartment. I was also very happy that a recent repair (clogged sink) was fixed immediately.

However, within the past 3 weeks, I have been very frustrated about the parking situation. My assigned parking spot has been occupied at least four times within the past three weeks. This has created an inconvenience for me, especially when unloading groceries. Part of the reason I chose this complex is because the parking space was so convenient to the unit. However, if I cannot park there, it causes a disruption in my schedule. Every minute is valuable to me,as I am working, and in graduate school. I don’t mind the extra walk, but the loss of time to walk to the apartment can add up.

I have left two messages regarding this matter on your voice mail. Since you have not responded, this letter is my next step at resolving this matter. Please contact me immediately at (342) 445-3434.

If the parking situation continues to be a problem, I will have no choice but to find a new residence when my lease is up. I do not want to move, but I need a close parking spot. Please contact me as soon as possible.

When you rent an apartment or home, it is generally your landlord's responsibility to make repairs and take care of any problems that you might have. To alert your landlord to a problem or issue that you are having or to let them know that something needs repair, you can write a letter. A complaint letter, however, should not be insulting or vulgar. Your goal with the letter is to get something accomplished, and polite language will do a much better job of that.

Write your name and address at the top of the letter.

Include your landlord's name and address beneath your own.

Explain any previous communication regarding your complaint in the first paragraph. For example, if you are complaining about uncompleted repairs that you sent a previous letter about, reference this letter, as well as the date it was sent.

Describe the nature of your complaint in detail. Using the example above, describe the type of repairs that need to be done in your apartment or house.

Refer to the section of your lease that legally obligates the landlord to rectify the complaint, such as where the lease states that the landlord is responsible for repairs.

State that you would like to discuss the issue further and ask that the landlord contact you. Provide your phone number.

Print and sign your name at the bottom of the letter. Add the date you're sending or delivering it to the landlord.
